A team of 12 parents, family members and volunteers has raised more than £8,200 for us after conquering the Tough Mudder Manchester 5K at Cheshire County Showground on Sunday 11th October.

Led by our regional fundraiser, Netty Doyle, the team set out with a target of Ā£3,000. They have so far raised an incredible Ā£8,201 – almost three times their goal – and their fundraising page will remain open until Monday 19th October to give supporters a final chance to donate.

With it costing £1,000 a day to keep one of our centres open, the money raised so far is enough to keep one of the charity's centres running for over a week.

The team braved more than 12 obstacles across the 5K course, including icy water plunges and muddy crawls, and crossed the finish line together.

Our CEO Sarah Smithson went along on the day to cheer the team on. She said,

I went along on the day to support the team, and I must stress just how impressed I was with them all. They were a fabulous team – they stayed together throughout the whole course, helped each other through the obstacles and cheered every single person on. Each time someone overcame their initial fear of what was in front of them, the rest of the team were right there to congratulate them.

I am so proud of them all. To raise more than £8,200 is an amazing achievement, and it will make a real difference to the children and families we support.

Nearly the whole team has already said they want to take on Tough Mudder again next year. They are now aiming to double the size of the team for the 5K event on Sunday 5th September 2027, and are encouraging anyone who would like to join them to register their interest.

Registration costs £50, with a minimum sponsorship target of £200 per participant. Anyone interested in joining the team should contact fundraising@sticknstep.org
