Team of 12 parents, family members and volunteers to tackle gruelling obstacle course

A team of 12 dedicated supporters will be braving mud, ice-cold water and towering obstacles on Sunday 11th October, when they take on the Tough Mudder Manchester 5K at Cheshire County Showground.

The team is led by our regional fundraiser, Netty Doyle, and includes several parents and family members of children who attend our centres, along with one of our volunteers. Together, they are aiming to raise £3,000 to help us continue providing support to children and young people with cerebral palsy.

Tough Mudder is renowned as one of the toughest obstacle challenges around. The 5K course packs in more than 12 obstacles, with participants expected to climb over, crawl under and wade through everything the course throws at them, from icy water plunges to muddy crawls beneath cages.

Netty says,

I'm so proud of this team. Some of us have never done anything remotely like Tough Mudder before, and we know it's going to push us to our limits, but that's exactly the point. The children we support at Stick 'n' Step show incredible determination every single week as they work towards their goals, and this is our way of showing that same spirit for them.

Many of the team are parents who have seen first-hand the difference Stick 'n' Step makes to their children's lives, and that's what will keep us going when we're up to our knees in mud and facing the next obstacle. We'd be so grateful for any support people can give. Every donation, however big or small, helps us keep our centres open and our sessions accessible for the families who need them.

Among the parents taking part is James, from Birkenhead, whose daughter Jersey, 4, attends our Wallasey centre.

James said,

I'll be honest, I'm more than a little nervous about some of those obstacles! But when I think about how hard Jersey works in every session at Stick 'n' Step, a bit of mud and freezing water seems like nothing in comparison.

Since she started at Stick 'n' Step, we've seen her grow in confidence and do things we weren't sure she would ever manage. The team there don't just support Jersey, they support our whole family. This is my chance to give something back.
