Step Up! for Stick 'n' Step

What is the Step Up! challenge?

  • Step up! is a challenge open to all work places

  • Teams of up to 5 measure the distance that they walk over a 4 -week time period between May and August 2019, record the steps, using a pedometer, Fitbit, app or activity tracker

  • Individuals or teams set up an on-line Fundraising page and encourage their friends and family to sponsor them for taking part in the challenge- we kindly ask for a minimum fundraising target of £30 per team member

  • Totals are recorded on the Step up! Record Sheet and submitted to Stick ‘n’ Step

  • All totals are recorded on a league table on the Stick ‘n’ Step website so that you can keep track of how your work place compares with others

Why should your work place take part?

  • It fits into busy schedules

  • You do not need any specialist equipment or training

  • It is guaranteed to get your work place moving

  • It builds team spirit and morale

  • Statistics from the British Heart Foundation indicate that a physically active work place takes 27.5 less sick days – that’s an average of 2 days of improved attendance per year

How will success be measured?

  • Use the Step Up! Record Sheet to track the progress you and your team are making. Enter your weekly step goal and then record your daily and weekly step totals.

  • At the end of your chosen 4- week period submit your record sheets so that your step total and fundraising total can be added to the Step Up! league table on our website www.sticknstep.org/leaguetable

How can I motivate my team?

  • Use the Step Up! Motivator to help you set targets as individuals and groups so that you have daily, weekly and monthly goals to work towards

  • Reward your team when they reach their goals- for example, with treats in the office, an extended lunch break, a team activity or a social event.

  • Encourage them to visit a Stick ‘n’ Step centre to meet some of our wonderful children and to experience first -hand the positive outcomes that are achieved that can and do make a difference to the lives of children and families. The money raised from it will make an impact on the lives of children with cerebral palsy and other motor neurone diseases from across the North- West

  • Encourage your team to think about the good feelings they experience when they are active and how much they have accomplished

  • The winning team and individual will win the title of Step Up! Champion for 2019 and will feature in a press release distributed to media across the North- West to demonstrate the contribution you have made to the well- being of your staff and to a local charity and will win a free team pass to take part in Break Out Liverpool,

How do I sign my work place up to take part?

  • Set a fundraising target, step target and 4-week challenge time- we ask for a minimum fundraising target of £30 per team member
