Stepping into summer camp at Stick ānā Step
26 August 2025
Around 50 of our children and young people have enjoyed a wonderful summer camp experience over the holidays, thanks to the generosity of The Bruce Wake Charitable Trust, The MJ Bibby Fund and Fletchers Solicitors.
One group visited local countryside inclusive outdoor education activity centre, Barnstondale, in Wirral, with some staying overnight for a residential experience. The second group attended The Children’s Adventure Farm Trust, based at Booth Bank Farm, Altrincham in Cheshire.
Both groups enjoyed a host of thrilling activities, from escape rooms, arts and crafts and a little retail therapy, to feeding llamas, bushcraft, abseiling, target practice, orienteering, and a delicious barbecue.
Fletchers Solicitors kindly funded one of the days at Barnstondale, which was an exciting ‘search and rescue’ challenge for some of our older teenagers. Lawyer Rosie McKnight from Fletchers, who took part in that day’s activity along with her colleague Amy Clayton, said afterwards,
Everyone was so welcoming, the young people were kind, caring and hilarious. If I’m being completely honest, it was one of the best days this year I’ve had at “work”. The team are so fab and you can see the amazing relationships you all have with each other, and the staff at the centre!
So yes, what an incredible day! We really couldn’t have had a better day so thank you so much again, we are so proud to have sponsored it.
Norma Young, our Head of Fundraising, who joined us last year and has visited both summer camps for the first time, said,
It was just incredible to see what our children and young people can achieve with experiences like this. The team spirit and camaraderie between them all and the accompanying adults was absolutely wonderful to see. We are so grateful to the generosity of our supporters, who made it all possible.
