Stick ‘n’ Step currently provide vital support to over 100 children and their families from our centres in Wallasey and Runcorn. Our Runcorn centre opened in the summer of 2017 enabling us to reach out to more families across the North West of England. 

Role Overview

Stick ’n’ Step is seeking a Trustee with legal expertise to join its Board. This role will help ensure strong governance, compliance, and risk management, supporting the charity to operate safely, ethically, and in line with its charitable objectives.

Trustees act collectively and are responsible for the overall governance and strategic direction of the charity, rather than the day-to-day management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act in the best interests of Stick ’n’ Step and ensure compliance with charity law and other relevant legislation
  • Contribute to the strategic leadership and governance of the charity
  • Provide legal insight and guidance to the Board on matters such as:
    • Charity law and regulatory compliance
    • Contracts, agreements, and policies
    • Employment, safeguarding, and data protection (as appropriate)
    • Risk management and liability
  • Support the review and development of governance policies and procedures
  • Offer constructive challenge and independent judgment in board discussions
  • Act as an ambassador for Stick ’n’ Step and uphold its values

Skills & Experience Required

  • Qualified legal professional or significant legal expertise gained through professional experience
  • Good understanding of legal and regulatory frameworks, or willingness to develop knowledge of charity law
  • Ability to apply legal knowledge strategically rather than operationally
  • Strong analytical and communication skills
  • Integrity, sound judgment, and a collaborative approach

Desirable (but not essential)

  • Experience advising charities, nonprofits, or organisations working with children or vulnerable people
  • Knowledge of safeguarding, employment law, data protection, or health-related regulation
  • Previous trustee, board, or governance experience

Time Commitment

  • Four board meetings per year, including preparation
  • Occasional involvement in sub-committees or policy reviews
  • Term of office: [e.g. 3 years, renewable]

Remuneration

This is a voluntary, unpaid role. Reasonable out-of-pocket expenses will be reimbursed in line with Stick ’n’ Step policy.

Stick ’n’ Step is seeking a Trustee with professional marketing experience to join its Board. The successful candidate will help guide the strategic direction of the charity and use their marketing expertise to strengthen awareness, engagement, and long-term sustainability.

Trustees share collective responsibility for the governance of the charity and play a key role in ensuring Stick ’n’ Step continues to deliver meaningful impact for children and families.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act in the best interests of Stick ’n’ Step, ensuring it operates in line with its charitable objectives, values, and legal obligations
  • Contribute to the overall strategic direction and governance of the charity
  • Provide marketing insight and constructive challenge to support:
    • Brand awareness and public profile
    • Marketing and communications strategy
    • Digital presence, social media, and content
    • Fundraising campaigns and supporter engagement
  • Review marketing plans, performance metrics, and risks related to reputation and visibility
  • Act as an ambassador for Stick ’n’ Step, promoting its mission and impact
  • Attend board meetings and contribute to discussions, decisions, and sub-committees where appropriate

Skills & Experience Required

  • Proven experience in marketing, communications, branding, or digital marketing
  • Ability to think strategically and apply marketing expertise at board level
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to explain marketing concepts clearly
  • Willingness to collaborate, challenge constructively, and support collective decision-making
  • Commitment to Stick ’n’ Step’s mission and values

Desirable (but not essential)

  • Experience in the charity, nonprofit, healthcare, or children’s sector
  • Knowledge of fundraising or donor marketing
  • Previous board or trustee experience
  • Familiarity with digital analytics, CRM systems, or campaign evaluation

Volunteer Classroom Assistant - Thursday pm

Job Title: Classroom Assistant

Reports to: Lead Conductor

Hours of volunteering: Thursday afternoon 12.45am until 3.30pm. Term time only.

Conductive education is about active learning. Stick ‘n’ Step sessions incorporate play, exercise routines and songs to develop functional skills. Children and young people are motivated by working alongside their peers in a positive environment and are empowered to achieve realistic goals that are specific and relevant to them.

Stick ‘n’ Step currently provide vital support to over 100 children and their families from our centres in Wallasey and Runcorn. This is an exciting time to join Stick ‘n’ Step and we are looking for someone who has the passion and motivation to contribute to the organisation.

About the role

Working together with the classroom team, you will assist in the delivery of conductive education programmes, which meet the individual needs of participating children and young people.

This role would suit someone with excellent communication skills, attention to detail and passion for working with children. If you are looking for a volunteering role that is rewarding with no two days the same, then get in touch now.

  • Set up the classroom prior to sessions, according to the specification of complex programmes, which are differentiated to meet the individual needs of children and young people. This involves moving a wide range of equipment, ensuring that they are safely positioned and at hand as needed.

Delivery of the educational programme

  • Join in and facilitate participants during group or individual Conductive Education sessions according to complex programmes and individual aims.
  • Participate in and share responsibility for creating and maintaining an appropriate, safe and attractive learning environment for children and young people. This includes basic cleaning tasks, upholding high standards of hygiene.
  • Assist in the management of children's behaviour.

Training, development and supporting the Stick ‘n’ Step team

  • Review, with appropriate persons, own training and development needs, agreeing and taking appropriate action.
  • Adhere to all agreed policies, planning programmes and development plans.
  • Represent the organisation to visitors, funders, families and all other stakeholders in the highest possible standards.
