The 4th Annual Golf Day has taken place and it has proved to be as good as ever. There was a record turn out and last years winners Derek and Julia Mountfield back to defend their title. This year the title went to the lads from Prenton Golf Club with Derek and Julia coming in third. Teresa, lady captain at Pryors Hayes came in fifth.
For the first time ever, we had a hole in one competition, with a Suzuki Splash as the prize. We are delighted to say, that this was won by Mr Bird and Sean very proudly gave him the keys to the car. Well done.

Having received a small grant from the Community Foundation for Merseyside in the last 12 months, we became eligible to enter for one of their awards. I am delighted to say we won not just one award, but two.
The 2009 Spirit of Merseyside Awards was held at Liverpool's Anglican cathedral. The event coincided with the Community Foundation for Merseyside's 10th anniversary and celebrated the impact of community groups, donors and individuals over that time.
Public voting decided that we won the Children's & Young People category ahead of three other groups. Sean (Chair of Trustees) accepted the award and thanked everyone for their support.
The penultimate award of the night was for Project of the Year. This was decided by a panel of judges and a surprise to us all. Anne accepted the award and gave a heart felt acceptance speech that had the whole audience wiping away their tears.
Finally, as it was the 10th birthday for the Community Foundation, we were asked to cut the birthday cake whilst streamers were blasted from the cathedral balcony showering the audience. A thoroughly good night was had by all and we wish to thank everyone for their support, we couldn't have done it without you!! More pictures in the Gallery.
Karl from the Hilton Foundation popped in recently and brought with him a very welcome cheque. Clare had been working with him for a couple of months to secure the funds for a future project. This can now become a reality. The pictures below show Karl handing over the cheque and then the boys taking a closer look!
You will have noticed the parents area has had a lick of paint recently. We've bought new settees, a wall unit and tables plus some very interesting books to meander through whilst whiling the time away. We couldn't have done any of this without the fabulous support of the Yorkshire Building Society in Formby. The Branch Manager Helen and Rachel popped in to see the results of our work and their money!
This years party was as good as 2007. The pictures below and on the gallery page, show the fun and frolics of the day. Having had a natter, caught up with friends and had a bite to eat, everyone then settled down to the show. It was again, standing room only. The nursery group were first up. Wow, they were great, alot for the older ones to live up to. But they did! A few dry eyes, but not many, as the children performed the Mama Mia style Christmas play.
After the play, Santa popped in to say hello to everyone, handing out presents to everyone who visited him in his grotto. Then it was time to say goodbye, until next year. Looking forward to it already!!

On a wet Wednesday in July we closed the Centre and all went to a Farm in Cheshire, specially designed for disabled children. What a day!! It was wonderful. The facilities were better than we could have imagined. The music room had fabulous instruments, the sports hall was state of the art, even the craft room had interesting things to do. The children loved it, although we wished it hadn't rained quite so much!
The sun shone, the golf was fantastic and the third Annual Golf Day proved to be another huge success.
After months of planning, the stage was set for a fabulous day. 39 teams took part, which included Clayton Blackmore, John H Stracey, John Durnin, John Ebrell and Gary Gillespie. Derek Mountfield and wife Jules ended up clear winners, with Martin Redrup the owner of the Golf Club giving them a run for their money, finally coming in third with his team. Clayton Blackmore just got in on the prizes, coming in fifth. Comedian Willie Miller entertained the crowd who stayed for the evening and a huge sum of money was raised at the auction. Here's to next year!!
At the end of June Stick 'n' Step were given a day trip on a narrow boat for two families. The boat sailed from Christleton in Cheshire, up to Beeston castle and back - a full day trip with a break at lunch time for a picnic. This was the third trip given to us by Wirral Narrow Boat Community Trust. Everyone had a ball and here are the pictures to prove it!!
For four weeks in June, two of Tranmere Rovers Sports Development workers came in to the Centre to give us a few football tips. Each sesson was an hour, warming up, dribbling, shooting, passing. They did it all! We even got medals at the end of the four sessions. The Tuesday afternoon group were the lucky recipients of the training and the pictures below show just how much they loved it.
Thank you Tranmere. We loved the sessions.
