About Stick 'n' Step

It was the culmination of the efforts of a group of parents who all have children with Cerebral Palsy, which resulted in the Centre being opened on 5th January 2004.

Need for the Centre

Although there had been Conductive Education in the Merseyside/Cheshire area previously this service was withdrawn in December 2003. The parent led registered Charity, Stick ‘n’ Step, was determined that the children could continue to receive Conductive Education ‘free of charge’ and was very fortunate to locate ‘new premises’ - an underused Parish Centre which had previously been a Primary School. Thanks to the support of Father Frank Rice, the parishioners and the Diocese of Shrewsbury, the Centre opened on 5th January 2004.
Stick 'n' Step Centre

With over 50 children attending for sessions at some time each week (maximum 8 per group) the demand for Conductive Education and all the benefits to children with Cerebral Palsy is obvious. The aim of the Centre is to raise the profile of Conductive Education, and to establish a Centre that will give children with Cerebral Palsy the opportunity to develop to their full potential and enjoy a more independent and certainly a better quality of life.

You are welcome to visit us

The Stick ‘n’ Step Centre provides a happy environment for children, parents and staff; you are welcome to visit anytime. The Stick ‘n’ Step team is made up of four Peto Institute trained Hungarian Conductors, two Classroom Assistants, an Operations Manager and a Finance/Fundraising Manager. During a child’s attendance at Stick ‘n’ Step all staff are available for help, advice or just emotional support. The Centre is a happy, warm and positive environment – in fact, one big happy family.

It’s free!

Stick ‘n’ Step receives no funding from the statutory bodies. The enthusiasm and commitment of parents, continual fundraising of friends and supporters and goodwill and financial support from businesses etc. means that Conductive Education, which can cost three to four hundred pounds a week at other Centres, is provided at no cost to parents and carers.
